The SCA's Five-Year Capital Plan is the guiding tool used by the RES group in determining where new sites are needed. RES also works closely with the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to understand additional needs that may arise. The Five-Year Capital Plan identifies both Community School Districts and Sub-Districts with funded need as well as Borough based analysis of High School seat need. The SCA's RES group actively searches for potential sites within these areas of need.

 

If you are a listing broker and not the property owner, please indicate as such. If you are a broker with no contractual relationship to the property owner or the site, the SCA has contract brokers who will respond to your submittal.

If you believe you know of a site that could potentially be a feasible for consideration as consideration as a new school let us know by submitting it here or email us at Sites@nycsca.org. Every three (3) years, RES issues a Request for Proposals to real estate brokers to assist RES identify suitable sites for the construction of new schools with current funded seat need. The current brokers working the RES are:

Areas Where Schools Are Needed by District  (Updated Annually)

Thank you for your interest in making a referral to the SCA for a potential new school site.

We welcome all referrals and each one is evaluated by the SCA’s Real Estate Services group for potential development as a school facility. We have included below additional information on the criteria the SCA uses in order to help determine the appropriateness of a site.

If you believe your site might meet the criteria below, we encourage you to share it with us. We will review each and every submittal made.

General Site Requirements/Preferences

  • At least 25,000 square feet of land /property for new schools. Larger sites that allow for adequate space for at grade play are strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 street frontages, however, additional street frontages are preferred.
  • Site should be free of easements, encroachments, etc.
  • SCA considers approximately 100,000 square foot condominium units with available outdoor play space, contiguous to the school space, in mixed use developments.
  • SCA requires column-free classrooms.
  • SCA requires double-heighted ceilings and column free space in the gymatorium.
  • All classrooms require natural light and ventilation.
