PROPOSED REDEVELOPMENT OF THE FORMER ST. JOHN VILLA CAMPUS,

STATEN ISLAND, DISTRICT 31

NOTICE OF PUBLIC SCOPING MEETING FOR A TARGETED

DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT

On behalf of the New York City Department of Education (DOE), The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) proposes to create three new schools, consisting of an approximately 764-seat Gifted and Talented primary school/intermediate school (PS/IS) and two separate, independently operated, approximately 627-seat intermediate/high schools (IS/HS); and an athletic field with an approximately 700- seat bleacher section on the former St. John Villa campus at 57 Cleveland Place.

The SCA, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed redevelopment of the former St. John Villa Campus (the “proposed project”) may result in a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Targeted Draft Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared. The Environmental Assessment and the Draft Scope of Work (DSOW) to prepare a Targeted Environmental Impact Statement is available below. A virtual public scoping meeting was held on Thursday March 7, 2024. Due to technical difficulties, a second public scoping meeting will be held as a hybrid event (in-person and virtual) on Thursday May 16, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the New Richard H. Hungerford School at 715 Ocean Terrace, Staten Island, New York 10301. Detailed instructions for participation in the virtual scoping meeting are below. The SCA will accept written comments on the Scope until 5:00 PM on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
