Public Art for Public Schools
The Public Art for Public Schools program (PAPS), a unit within the New York City School Construction Authority, was established in 1989 to provide quality artwork to the New York City public schools .Our program's mission is to protect, document, and conserve all existing artwork in the schools, and to further expand the art collection through the commissioning of new projects. PAPS ultimate goal is for every school in the city to possess at least one professional, permanent artwork, thereby visually, artistically, and educationally enhancing school learning environments.

EPA/NYC PCB Program
The City of New York (City) and the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) reached an agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Region 2 (EPA) regarding the assessment and remediation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) Caulk in public school buildings (Consent Agreement and Final Order [CAFO], Docket Number TSCA-02-2010-9201).
As a result of the agreement, the City is undertaking a comprehensive pilot study to evaluate the possible presence of PCB Caulk and preferred remedial alternatives.
Resolution A
Resolution “A” (Reso “A”) projects are school specific capital improvement or enhancement projects that are funded through individual grants which are allocated by the Borough Presidents or members of the New York City Council. These projects are very important to the school community because they provide enhancements and upgrades to existing facilities. The most common Reso “A” projects are upgrades to a school’s technology, auditorium, playground, science Lab and other specialty classrooms. The SCA has also been able to utilize Reso “A” funding to complete some unique and innovative projects such as a Challenger Space Center, an Edible Schoolyard (farm), planetarium upgrade and Green roofs. The SCA is grateful to our elected officials for entrusting us with this capital funding that has led to numerous enhancements in schools throughout the City.
Environmental Due Diligence
As part of our Due Diligence process, SCA performs extensive studies and investigations to determine the environmental conditions of every site. These studies and investigations go well beyond the requirements of typical industry practices since we are charged with constructing schools that are environmentally safe. Further, we design and implement comprehensive remedial measures that will ensure a safe environment for the life of the school. Our level of care is what sets us apart from others
PlaNYC Programs
On Earth Day of 2007, Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled PlaNYC, an ambitious and practical plan to make New York America’s first sustainable city. As part of his plan, he vowed to create more open spaces, ensuring that all New Yorkers live within a 10-minute walk of a park. In addition, the Mayor pledged to create a comprehensive program under PlaNYC to reduce emissions from a variety of sources within the city.
